Anchorage Moose Receives 14th Parking Ticket, Shows No Remorse
City officials say the 1,200-pound repeat offender has been occupying the same Midtown loading zone since 2023.
ANCHORAGE — A bull moose known to Midtown residents as “Gary” was issued his fourteenth parking citation Tuesday, after once again spending nine hours in a 15-minute loading zone outside a Spenard Road pho restaurant.
“We’ve tried everything,” said a parking enforcement officer who asked not to be named because Gary “knows where she lives.” “Chalking the hooves. Boots. A strongly worded note. He ate the note.”
According to municipal records, Gary owes the city $1,840 in fines and late fees and has never once fed a meter. Attempts to tow him have been postponed indefinitely after the first tow truck driver “took one look and went home.”
Witnesses described the moose as calm, unbothered, and “making direct eye contact the whole time, like he wanted me to say something.”
The Assembly will take up a proposal next month to designate the loading zone a permanent moose space, which supporters say is “just admitting what’s already true.”
